Drive for 3m diameter observatory dome - observing slot

Since mid-2010 we upgraded the shutter driving system. The shutter moves on six large rolls and is driven by three-phase motor with the power of 120W and the proper cogwheel. The mechanism works very smoothly and quietly. Most importantly it is very reliable - during the tests we performed more than 1,500 open-close cycles. After that the drive did not require any adjustment. This corresponds to about 5 years of trouble-free activity.
