I am a complete newbie when it comes to astronomy, but after a few hours of research online, I chose this telescope and mount to get me started. Having seen the many pictures the Hubble space telescope took, I had to be realistic in terms of what I would be able to see with this one. The first time setup went very well, thanks to the detailed instructions Celestron provided. Here are a few of my pro's and cons.
Pro:
-Great scope to explore the skies, even with moderate to heavy light pollution (close to the port of Zeebrugge, BE)
-No steep learning curve. When you get the alignment right, the scope takes you to the target automatically
-The 25mm eyepiece included is a great way to start
-A free app for android or ios that shows you the celestial bodies at any given time
Cons:
- Requires 8 AA batteries that don't last very long, best to use a powerbank or AC adapter (not included)
- Mount can get a little shaky with the legs fully extended and is not designed for photography
The cons are pretty easy to overcome. If astrophotography is your thing, it might be better to look for an equatorial mount instead of this alt az.
