Omegon RA and DEC motors for EQ- 500 - track objects automatically
The Omegon motor set upgrades your telescope to equip it with electrical tracking. The bad old days when you had to constantly track your mount by hand are over. Observing using the Omegon EQ -500 motor set to track is particularly convenient.
A motor on each of the two axes
An equatorial mount such as the EQ-500 always moves on two axes - letting you reach any point in the sky. This set has two motors to allow you to completely hand over tracking to electronic control - one is for right ascension (RA) and one is for declination (DEC).
While the RA motor steadily tracks the astronomical object, the DEC motor is used for corrections. Very few mounts are precisely aligned - but the DEC motor corrects any deviations almost instantly. Manual tracking is now a thing of the past.
Your controller for the sky
A hand box controls the telescope's movement, allowing you to keep everything under control. Four yellow buttons are used to navigate your mount in two axes and four directions. In addition to the 'normal' 1X sidereal rate, the hand box also has 8X and 32X correction speeds. This allows you to quickly change where the telescope is pointing whenever you want.
It's like this
But how accurately does your telescope track with the EQ-500 motors? Imagine you are under a clear night sky, you loosen the clutches on mount's axes and search for and point the telescope at the planet Saturn. You re-tighten the clutches and the RA motor immediately takes over the tracking, not allowing you to lose sight of Saturn. But of course you can see through your finder scope that Saturn is not yet set accurately - it's not exactly in the middle of the field of view. Simply take the hand box, select a high motor speed, and use the four directional buttons to put Saturn exactly where you want it. It's as easy as that, with no wobbling, and only a faint hum from the motors.
Show visitors the stars
Now the time has come where you can show your family all the astronomical sights - and without objects always moving out of the field of view and your nearest and dearest complaining "Where? I can't see anything!" - the motors now have your astronomical object completely under control.
Astrophotography - fascinating images of the sky
The Skywatcher EQ-500 motors form the basis for getting into astrophotography. Photos of astronomical objects require precision tracking, and if necessary a number of corrections during exposures. Get started immediately in this fascinating hobby with your SLR camera or webcam.
